CAF Chemotherapy is an
adjuvant therapy for breast cancer using Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin and Fluorouracil (5FU).
CAF chemotherapy may reduce the chance of your breast cancer coming back.
A blood test is required before each CAF chemotherapy
treatment. If you visit your dentist or doctor you should tell them about your CAF treatment .
Doxorubicin can cause tissue injury if it leaks out of the vein. The nurses are
extremely careful but you must let them know if the injection is burning or painful.
Expected Side Effects:
Nausea and vomiting - in the first
12-24 hours after your CAF chemotherapy treatment and usually wears off by day 3-7.Hair Loss - probably fall out 2-4
weeks after CAF chemotherapy treatment begins.
Pink/red Urine - due to the doxorubicin in the CAF chemotherapy treatment.
Fatigue -usually in the first
week after your CAF chemotherpay treatment.Possible Side Effects:
Mouth Sores - a few days after your CAF chemotherapy treatment. Mouth sores can occur on the
tongue, gums, the sides of the mouth or in
the throat.
Pain or Tenderness - may
occur where the needle was placed when you have your CAF chemotherapy treatment and it
may extend up the arm.
Sunburn
Watery Eyes
Metallic Taste
Weight Gain
Joint Pain - after your CAF chemotherapy treatment you may experience pain in your joints of the hands, knees
and feet.
